History[]
Frank Costello, born Francesco Castiglia, was an Italian gangster and mafia boss. Costello ran one of the most extensive gambling rings in the United States. His nickname was "Prime Minister of the Underworld." He led the Luciano (later Genovese) crime family, one of the Five Families that operated in New York. Costello "retired" in 1957, abdicating his position as Boss. He died in 1973 in Manhattan.
